The startup, owned and promoted by Enagás, BioEnGas, and the independent investment manager, Suma Capital, have signed an agreement to jointly invest in biogas development projects based on a correct recovery of waste, which contributes to the development of a circular economy.

The objective of the collaboration is to develop and build a set of biogas generating plants in Spain with innovative technologies. Currently, more than 10 projects are being analysed in different locations, and some of them could begin to be built in the coming months.

Biogas is obtained through the anaerobic decomposition of wastewater and urban, agricultural, livestock and forest solid waste, among others. After debugging through a technological process, called upgrading, it becomes biomethane. Biomethane, like biogas, is a source of renewable, local and storable energy supply that reduces emissions. It can be transported by gas infrastructures for use in all energy uses, including in industry, where today the gas is irreplaceable for its high calorific value and versatility. It can also be used as a sustainable fuel for vehicles.

BioEnGas was born thanks to the Enagás Corporate Entrepreneurship and Open Innovation program, Enagás Emprende. This program, created to promote new business projects in the energy sector, and apply disruptive technologies in the current environment of energy transition, has launched since 2016 seven startups that have already created 158 employees.

Suma Capital is an independent manager with more than 250 million euros under management of funds aimed at business growth and sustainable development. It manages specialized funds in sustainable infrastructures that promote the energy transition and the circular economy, generating a positive environmental and social impact.
