The Crucial Role of Women in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
In the entrepreneurial ecosystem, women play a fundamental role, leading innovative projects that impact key sectors and paving the way toward a more diverse and inclusive future. In the energy sector, their work is even more critical, given the strategic role this field plays in the transition to a sustainable model. This November 19, Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we celebrate those who, with vision and determination, are transforming the business landscape.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day: Women Leading the Transformation of the Energy Sector
To mark this celebration, we highlight Carmen Peña and Mayte Bolumar, two women awarded in the latest edition of the Ingenia Energy Challenge, an initiative by Enagás Emprende where 40% of participants were women. Both lead projects addressing key challenges in the energy transition, demonstrating that female leadership is essential for innovation in this sector.
Carmen Peña: Innovation in Hydrogen Infrastructure
Carmen Peña, a researcher at CSIC, leads the project “CSIC – Structural Evaluation of Pipelines for Hydrogen Transport,” awarded as the ‘External Proposal.’ Her initiative focuses on certifying the integrity of hydrogen-adapted pipelines using technology patented by CSIC. “In this phase of the energy transition, ensuring the integrity of infrastructures is essential,” Peña remarks, emphasizing that multidisciplinary collaboration and adaptability to new environments are key to the success of any female entrepreneur.
Mayte Bolumar: Technology for Energy Training and Maintenance
Meanwhile, Mayte Bolumar, Head of Maintenance at Saggas, was recognized with the ‘Female Entrepreneur’ award for her AZIM project, a mobile application designed to enhance training and maintenance of equipment in renewable gas installations. Bolumar notes that, although structuring her vision into a viable business plan was a challenge, the support she received after the award gave her renewed energy to advance her initiative. “This project is a new incentive to make life easier for energy professionals,” she states.
Both women agree that diversity and female leadership enrich the sectors in which they participate, providing a holistic vision and a long-term approach essential for addressing the current challenges of the energy transition.
Enagás has prepared a video where Carmen and Mayte share their thoughts on entrepreneurship. You can watch it here.
This Women’s Entrepreneurship Day reminds us that supporting and making female leadership visible is not only a matter of justice but also a strategy to build a more innovative and sustainable future.
