At Enagás Emprende, we celebrate the strategic boost to technological innovation in electric mobility with the signing of a development agreement between Basquevolt, our portfolio company, and Renault Group through its electric vehicle unit Ampere. This milestone reinforces our commitment to the energy transition and to leadership in advanced energy storage solutions.

At the end of February, Ampere, Renault Group’s electric mobility and software division, and Basquevolt, a Spanish company backed by Enagás Emprende and other industrial and technological partners, announced the signing of a Joint Development Agreement to accelerate the development of lithium-metal-based batteries. This technology represents a significant leap in energy density compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries, opening the door to more efficient, lighter and more competitive electric vehicles.
The collaboration, which builds on more than a year of joint work, aims to validate the technology in Pre-A Sample prototypes and move towards its commercial deployment in the next generation of electric vehicles. Basquevolt’s proposal combines a polymer electrolyte with an advanced anode, enabling simpler and more efficient manufacturing processes. According to estimates, this proposal could reduce capital investment per GWh by around 30% and energy consumption per kWh produced by approximately 30% compared with conventional processes.

In addition, lithium-metal batteries offer key advantages for the future of electric mobility, such as greater thermal stability, fast-charging capabilities, and the possibility of designing more compact and lighter battery packs—essential attributes to meet the market’s growing demands for range and sustainability.
For Enagás Emprende, this agreement reflects the value of supporting technology companies such as Basquevolt, which contribute tangibly to strengthening the European industrial ecosystem in energy storage and to advancing more sustainable mobility. The alliance with Renault not only validates the quality of the innovation developed, but also strengthens Basquevolt’s positioning as a key player in the advanced battery value chain.
